Heidi, Jessica, and I spent last week with Heidi's parents at their cabin in New Hampshire (Squam Lake area) and we took Jess to a 12-and-under fishing 'tournament' at a small pond behind the town hall and she not only came in 2nd place, but ended up in the local paper.
The picture was too cute to keep to myself, so I scanned the story and attached it here (any dial-up users, beware! attachments are a kinda big).
way to go jessica, in new jersey , u have to catch an 18 inch flounder or through it back, guess uncle walt and gang did not leave any fish in jersey ocean...........i love fishing
Two quick comments. The fractions were replaced with a question mark in the article. Jessica's 2nd place fish was 6 3/4" which was actually a tie with another kid, but among the two of them, Jessica had a better 3-fish average, so took 2nd based on that.
Also, the caption of Jessica's picture says she is intent on watching her bobber, but Jessica is much too advanced a fisherwoman to use a bobber! ;-)
They had supposedly stocked the pond with trout, but I'm pretty sure everyone was bringing in catfish, and small ones at that. The winning fish was a mere 7".
