  • Ugh, sugar on tomatoes. I don't remember him doing that. That sounds horrible. See, I learned something new about my Dad.
    • I can't believe you don't remember that. Dad and sugar on his tomatoes. Everyone at the shore would go eeww. He stuck by the way he did it. Remember the long table for dinner at the Ford house in Sea Isle? It would go from the dining room into the sitting room.
  • I gotta admit that I can't just eat a plain tomato sandwich, but I do love to pile them on my ham and cheese (or whatever other sandwich I'm making). I know my Mom and Dad both like a tomato sandwich every now and then. Heidi and I grow tomatoes every year in our garden and while I can't rightly call them Jersey tomatoes, they are pretty darned good and I'd put them up against a Jersey tomato any day of the week!

Here's a shot of our garden from a couple summers ago (before the tomatoes started getting ripe).

    • Wow, what a beautiful garden. I love home grown tomates. Heather (my daughter) and I are really into gardening. We both have beautiful flower and perennial gardens every summer. Her Dad is a grower for all the Home Depots in Maryland, Virginia, DC, Philadelphia, Ohio and now North Carolina. As you can guess, we go and raid his greenhouses every spring and plant as many gardens as we can take care of.
  • I always remember the schism in our family between the Casey's, who salted their tomatoes, and our Dad, Walt, who put sugar on them. It must say something about the sweetness of the tomatoes in Jersey.
