Anyone remember the old Cocktail Parties in the back of the Ford house on 48th Street? I remember someone dressing up as a fortune teller and all the adults going in one at a time getting their fortune told. I think it was Uncle Bill Faunce who was the swami. Anyone remember that? I do remember Aunt Marion and Uncle Bill bringing their three dachsund dogs to the shore with them. I also remember the steps of that big house on 48th Street always covered in sand and as you walked up them, you sounded like Fred Astaire doing a sand-tap dance.

  • Yeah, Kath, remember when lightening struck the cup of water in the attic window. Was it Joyce that was painting when it happened? I remember Marilyn slept on that cot in the attic hallway one or two years, then Michael got it. We did think Joyce, Linda and Pam were way cool, didn't we. That Mrs. Appleman was scarey. Remember all the adults wanted us to go be nice to her so we would inherit all her money. They said that she didn't have any family to inherit it. Thats horrible...............what kind of parents did we have??????
    • I'm so glad you thought we were cool. I just remember being tortured and misunderstood. I thought Mom was the meanest mom ever. She certainly didn't appreciate her hippie daughter. I don't remember the lightening incident, but it sounds familiar. I do remember painting faces a bit. Now they are doing that at all the fairs for the little kids. I could've had a career.
  • i love that old house.................that porch was always hopping with activity remember how they would take grandmom to busches for a crabcake lat at night WELL late to me anyway
    • that was the best house, remember poor michael had his own room a little corner up the stairs on a cot. big bathroom funny only one and i dont remember any problems,,,,,,,,,,,,loved the picture of Sketer on the porch, i loved that dog.........i always felt like we were down there all summer and it was only 2weeks..........remember Mrs. applebaum across the street? remember when the lightening struck we were upstairs with joyce listening to sargent peppers lonely heart club band and letting joyce paint our faces wow i thought u were the coolist......i was RIGHT!
  • Aunt Marion was married to Uncle Ed, Uncle Bill Faunce's brother. Aunt Eleanor was married to Uncle Bill Faunce. Actually Ed and Bill Faunce were our parent's first cousins and our second cousins. Marion and Ed had 3 kids, Suzanne, Beverly, & Eddie. I wonder where they ended up? Anyone know? Wish I'd been around for the cocktail party with the fortune teller. Actually there was also Uncle Bill Waples and his wife Marion. We had two Aunt Marions. One in each generation. Great Aunt Marion Waples, and Aunt Marion Faunce.
    • You are abolutely right. I asked my Mom about it and she it was Aunt Eleanor who was married to Bill Faunce AND that it was my mother that dressed as the fortune teller.
  • Donna, Did you see the picture that I posted of that old house. I went to all the houses that we stayed in in Sea Isle and Strathmere and took pictures this past summer. I am eventually going to put a collage together. Yes, who could forget those cocktail parties and the fortune telling...............
    • Hi Maureen. I did see it and wasn't sure if that was the Ford house. I have a lot of old pictures but have to get them scanned somehow to put them on the web. Great to hear from you. Did you read my comments about the boardwalk and your mustang? I'm sorry if I made it sound that you were much older, in fact, we're only 3-4 years apart but when you're 11 and your cuz is 16, it made a world of difference.
