  • I remember Grandmom and Grandpop with their own room at the Ford House. Maybe the noise finally got to them and they went next door to Aunt Reen's boarding house. Maybe they wanted to be able to bathe in peace. Yes, Grandmom was an early riser. I remember her when she was older saying she had her bed pushed near the window so she could see the stars at night.
    • You're right Frances, I do remember Grandmom and Grandpop staying at Aunt Reen's. They probably stayed in the Ford House when I was really younger and there weren't quite so many of us.
  • I don't think any of us were ever in the parade. Whats that about????????????? The Caseys had the cutest babies in Sea Isle. (I think so anyhow)
    • NO MONEY........I don't know how they did what they did.
  • Kathleen and I used to take our showers out back of the Ford house. All we had inside was one bathroom for 3 familys (big familys). How did we ever do that??????????? That tub may have had a shower attached, but I don't remember it. Outside was much more fun. Kathleen do you remember us doing that???????????
    • That is exactly what I think about the Ford House. One bathroom for about 18 of us including grandmom and grandpop the three sisters and all of their kids, then their husbands joined on the weekends. The bathtub didn't have a shower. I didn't like the outdoor shower because I think the hooks made out of deer feet. That gave me the creeps. Just like the deer head in the dining room.
  • I remember the Baby Parade really well. I thought it was so neat. The year the song, "Itsy, Bitsy, Teensy, Weeny, Yellow Polka Dot Bikini" was a hit and so many of the babies were in those bikinis. I think it was a parade for the locals. We have one here in Pacific Grove every October called the Butterfly Parade and all the kindergarteners are dressed as Monarch Butterflies. I figure it is something small town folks like to do.
  • I think they still do the baby parade, don't they? Either way, I definately remember it. They definately still have concerts right there on the boardwalk at the end of JFK... I think we saw one just last year.
    • they do still have the baby parade...we used to go to the shore the first two weeks in august. we now go in july , so we miss it i wonder if it is as big it was always very crowded
  • I loved the baby parade. How come none of us were in it? What was wrong with our Mom's. I guess they didn't have room in their cars for anything more - I can remember my mother used to take out the silverware drawer in our kitchen in Philly and just bring the whole damn tray with us because the dumps we stayed in didn't have anything!! One place we rented in Strathmere had half a bath tub. We used the outdoor showers. God, when I think about the rustic ways of life we had back them compared to what is available to rent today cracks me up.
